You’re stuck behind enemy lines. Alone and lost, you’re also hungry. Very hungry…
Okay, maybe that’s not the case. Maybe you’re actually shipwrecked on and island in the middle of the Pacific and…
Alright, maybe that’s not the case either. But the truth is, you don’t need to be in an extreme situation such as those to have a reason to stock some canned meat in your cupboard.
If you’re a skeptic, you’re not alone. But before you roll your eyes, consider that canned meats aren’t fundamentally or philosophically all that different from the canned tuna that everyone seems perfectly fine with. Or canned fruit and vegetables, for that matter.
But Spam, perhaps the best known version of canned meat, has been, for generations, the subject of many a comedian’s punch line, leaving canned meat with stigma that’s tough to overcome.
We say, get over it. But don’t take our word for it. Try any of the five canned meats we’ve found are not just very practical product, but very tasty as well. Ours are available in Boneless Beef Chunks, Boneless Chicken Chunks, Boneless Turkey Chunks, Boneless Pork Chunks, and Ground Beef (which, of course, is boneless as well). All are canned in their own natural juices, without the addition of any artificial ingredients. Each is pre-cooked, requiring only reheating (if desired).
So why stock them? With a longer shelf life than most frozen foods and compact package that requires little storage space, canned meat will keep in case of an emergency. But it’s also handy to add to rice or noodles for a last-minute, quick entrée. Mix some canned ham with potatoes in a casserole. Or add them to gift some substance to a soup or chili. Once you start, you’ll find hundreds of ways to use them to add to dishes.
Oh, and here’s some canned meat trivia: The nautical term for canned meat is Fanny Adams. Just thought you’d like to know.
